Happy New Year: Make it your best year

Hi everyone, Happy New Year. Trust your year has been great so far. Well, I’ve got a couple of questions for you, are you excited about the new year? Any new year’s resolutions? Any big plans for 2019?

I am excited about 2019, i don’t have any new year’s resolutions but i do have big plans for the year *dancing *. The beginning of each year is a reflective time for me. I began this year by seeking God to know what He had planned for me because i didn’t want to run off with my own plans. After sensing God’s leading, i made a note of it and thought i was good to go got the year. Then i was in church yesterday and boooom! the light bulbs went up in my head and i saw it. God showed me three steps to making sure i have the best year ever. I hope this blesses you and sets you up for an amazing year too.

Step 1: What land has God given you in this year?

Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess. Numbers 33:53 (NIV)

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him– 1 Cor 2:9 (NIV)

It took me a couple of years to finally start walking in the truth that my plans are good but God’s plans are great. Rather than begin each year with what i want, i had to learn to ask God for His plans. The Israelites never went to take possession of a land that God had not given. As God lead the children of Israel through Moses and Joshua, each leader made sure they conquered only the lands God had already given them.

As God’s child, God has a land for you this year. God has things prepared for you that your human mind has not conceived. This is exciting! What He has for you is bigger, better, greater than what you can imagine. So my question to you is: do you know what God has prepared for you in this year? Do you know the lands He has given you in this year? God isn’t going to help you conquer what He hasn’t given you, so the first step to a productive, fruitful and amazing year is finding out what God has for you.

Step 2: Have you spied out the land?

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho… Joshua 2:1

Before the Israelites went in to take possession of a land, Moses and Joshua at different times sent spies to go check out the land. I believe in both cases they wanted to get a sense of what they were up against. You know my religious mind tells me if God has given you the land, you pray and go take it lol.. yeah but that’s not what the Israelites did. They needed to know more about the land so they could figure out the best way to go about conquering the land.

We learn from the Israelites that it is not good enough to know what land God has given, but we must go further to get more details about the land so we can strategize on how to conquer it. How big is the land God has given you? Have you walked through it? Can you see how good the land is? Can you conquer the land in one year or would you need to conquer it little by little? Are you excited about this land? Is your mind consumed with the new land He’s given to you or is your mind still in Egypt?

Step 3: What’s your strategy to take over the land?

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? Luke 14:28

Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? Luke 14:31

This is what i learnt yesterday in church. Strategy is setting goals, determining what actions are required to achieve your goals and mobilizing resources to execute your actions.

Yes God has given you a land, now you have to learn to partner with Him in order to take possession of that land. The strategy with which the Israelites conquered Jericho is different from that used to Conquer Ai. You need to know how to possess your land, each land might require a different strategy. Your strategy might be stand still, it might be walk around the wall, it might be go in at night, whatever it is, you need to find it.
