Trust is defined as firm belief in the character, strength, or truth of someone or something (Merriam Webster dictionary)
For me, being a Christian for a long sometimes creates this illusion of I know God, I trust Him, He’s my Father and we got this closeness going. We are fine. That’s the place I was at, I really thought my trust in God was solid. Then God gave me a wonderful opportunity, He I transitioned from a paid job to becoming an entrepreneur. Oh my! Let’s just say I realized God just gave me an opportunity to step up my trust level.
God is intentional about deepening our level of trust in Him. He keeps taking us from level of trust to another. For me becoming an entrepreneur was God positioning me to know Him and trust Him on a whole new level. I remember an incident where I believe God laid it in my heart to take a training. I was excited about it, I contacted the institution, got registered and just before we began I got the details regarding the cost. What? That’s too expensive, I can’t afford it; I am not taking it.
While chatting about this with a friend about my decision to not take the training, she laughed and said I was responding just like the ten spies in the bible. In Number 13, Moses sent out twelve spies to spy out the land that God had given to the Israelites. All spies agreed that it was a good land, however 10 of them said we cannot take the land. There are giants there and we are like grasshoppers. Looking on the outside they were probably right, giants are huge. The ten spies accessed the situation based on their physical capacity and condition, excluding God from the equation.
Two spies, Joshua and Caleb thought differently. They agreed there were giants in the land but they said we can take the land. These two guys included God in their equation, they figured, well by ourselves we probably can’t but we have a God who we saw split the red sea, destroy the Egyptians chasing us, performed lots of miracles to get us out of Egypt etc. Hmmm, with Him on our side, we’re good.
Oh my! I saw it, she was right. I had made a decision not to take the training (the land) which I believe God was leading me to take, a course I know was good and needed at that phase of my life. I made the decision to quit based on my bank balance (physical condition, my financial capacity) with no consideration of God as my source.
And then it became clear to me that one way to know if you’re trusting God or not is to examine your decisions. Do you make a decision based solely on an outward factor (bank balance, your physical capacity) or is God factored in to that decision? Joshua and Caleb said let’s go up and take the land for God is with us! What a big difference. I did finally realize that God is my source not my bank account. I repented, went back to God and thanked Him because He has made provision for whatever training He wanted me to take. I asked Him to open my eyes to what He has provided.
As you begin this year, I would like to challenge you review your decision and goal for 2020. Are your goals based on God’s ability or yours? God will never give you a goal that you can achieve by yourself. God gives us goals that cannot be accomplished without Him. He gives us goals that requires us to TRUST HIM in order to have it accomplished.
Are your choices based on what you can see physically or are they based on God’s word? Are you making decisions based on your understanding or are you leaning on His? TRUST CAN BE SEEN IN THE CHOICES WE MAKE. TRUST GOD.
Great word…may we completely TRUST God this year in all our choices and everything else.
Amen. Thanks Sis
