KNIVES OUT – WHAT GOD TAUGHT ME THROUGH A MOVIE

Mondays are usually my days off. I work Tuesdays to Saturday and have Sundays and Mondays off. On these days, I try to find time to rest and learn to intentionally spend some time listening to God. This Monday however was a movie and chill Monday. I tried having a quiet time before my movie time but it didn’t seem productive, so I closed my bible and asked God to speak to me in any way He could and off I went to watch my movies. I saw the movie: Knives Out, I enjoyed it.

A few hours after I was done watching the movie, I had a few scenes playing in my mind and then it hit me, God did speak to me. He spoke through the movie! Wait, what? No kidding He did, and here’s what He taught me.

I’ll try to give the lessons without much details for those who will like to see the movie. In the movie, a rich Father died leaving all his inheritance to just one person. His entire family assumed the inheritance would be distributed amongst the family members but that wasn’t the case. Some family members who were not pleased with the decision (the written will of the Father) did everything possible to steal or make the recipient of the inheritance give it up.

Lesson:

  • The rich Father that diesJesus
  • The father’s written will that came into effect after his deathGod’s written word
  • The inheritanceOur inheritance in Christ (What God has given you).
  • The recipient of the inheritance as stated on the will You.
  • Those trying to steal or get the recipient of the inheritance to give it upThe devil (His mission is to steal, kill and destroy)

After the will was read, the family members did everything they could to try to either steal or get the recipient of the inheritance to give up the inheritance. They came against her with everything and in any way they could.

Just like in the movie, as Christians we have an inheritance in Christ which came into effect after His death and resurrection. Every time we read His word (HIS WILL) we get to see what He has given to us. When we know what’s ours, we can confidently go take possession of it.

How the devil gets you to lose our inheritance

Distracts you from reading the Will (Ignorance): In the movie, the recipient of the inheritance did not know what she had until the will was read. The family continued to live and enjoy the resources of the dead Father until the will was read. It was the will that revealed who the new owner was. Reading God’s word isn’t just a religious exercise, His word reveals our inheritance.

Question: Do you know what God has given to you? Do you know what your inheritance is in Christ? Have you read and do you continue to read His will?

Finds a way to steal the inheritance: The devil comes to kill, steal and destroy. He can’t steal what you don’t have. For someone to steal your book, you must have one. In the movie, the family looked for ways to set the recipient up as a murderer so they could take the inheritance. The family knew that if the recipient was found guilty of murder then the inheritance would be legally transferred back to them (this was the law).

The devil comes with temptations into our lives, with the goal of getting us to fall into sin. Sin gives the devil a legal access into to your life. Guess what he’ll be doing once he’s gets legal access? Stealing your inheritance. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” Matt 26:41. Don’t give the devil legal access into your life.

Finds a way to get you to give up the inheritance: In the movie, the family did all they could to get the recipient to give up the inheritance.

The devil does same in our lives, he tries to bring so much opposition against you to make you grow weary as you wait for the manifestation of what you have received. He says it’s not worth the hassle just quit this your prayer and confession. He attacks with weariness, discouragement etc. And even when you’ve received the blessing, he tries to convince you don’t deserve it. Sometimes he whispers it won’t last long, you would soon lose everything, once you agree with that, you give him access to steal it.

To those who are weary and about quitting, be encouraged, do not quit. You will win if you don’t quit. An inheritance isn’t something you work for, never allow the devil steal your blessing by making you feel guilty of receiving a gift from God you didn’t have to labor for, or threaten you saying it won’t last for long.

Right now, I’m sipping tea in my new mansion (Go watch the movie lol), what God says is mine, is mine. I’m not giving it up and I’m not letting no devil steal my inheritance. Ok, go watch Knives Out, then come back and let me know what you learnt.

  • […] A couple of days ago, I laid in bed, feeling so discouraged because I had not seen the manifestation of God’s word in my life yet.  I have all these great promises and prophetic words for this year, I thought by now I should have seen the fulfillment of some if not all. Lord, why haven’t I seen the manifestation of these promises yet? I asked. I waited patiently for His response and He brought to remembrance the lessons He taught me earlier this year from the movie Knives Out. (you can read it here) […]
