Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
I stared at my computer screen for hours barely able to concentrate. I was so glad I had attended all the meetings I had scheduled for the day and cleared out all pending work on my desk. Sitting on my office desk I kept asking, Lord is this you? Do you really think I should quit and go into business fulltime? I thought the plan was to start and grow the business and transition into fulltime after a few years? How do I cope with no salary? My benefits, goodness Lord I’m going to lose all my benefits. This must be some crazy idea in my head, this can’t be God.
But I knew His voice, I had heard Him, there was no denying that. Have you ever been a situation where you needed to be sure it was God leading you to make a certain decision? Have you ever been in a position where you pondered if you were being led by yourself or by the Spirit?
I have been at this cross road of questioning a number of times, but this time was different. A few months ago I had prayed to God about starting a business. I committed the entire process to Him and He began leading me. I saw Him open doors, grant me wisdom and favour, I had no doubt my going into business was backed by Him. Just when I was about to start the business I sensed the Spirit prompting me to go in full time. That was not the plan, that was a big decision and I needed to be sure.
Lord when a decision is not contrary to your word, how can I know it is you leading me? This was what He taught me.
- Faith: Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him. The Holy Spirit said to me I would never led you down a part that does not required faith. I can never lead you down a part that would not please God. When I thought about the switch from a career to a full-time entrepreneur, I knew this would require Faith. Abraham did not require faith to birth Ishmael but faith was required to birth Isaac. God’s path would always require you to walk by faith.
- Transformation: Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. The leadership of the Spirit would always take you down the path of transformation. The Spirit would break strongholds, challenge unbelief, break wrong belief pattern, challenge your perspective and more.– He will transform your mind as long as you allow Him. When you allow Him, He can take you from a weak fearful person, to a bold fearless person. See what happened to Peter after the baptism of the Holy Spirit? Peter who denied Christ when confronted by a young lady, now preaches the gospel boldly to the ones who crucified Christ. Peter who cried out for Jesus to save him in s storm, faces death in the book of Acts ad is sound asleep. You cannot walk with Him and remain the same.
- The Fruits of the Spirit: Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control . As the Spirt of God leads us, we would begin to see the development and growth of these fruits on our lives. The absence of these might mean we have not permitted Him to lead us. You cannot walk with Him and not bear fruits.
- Results: Genesis 17:21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year. When the Spirit leads you, you will produce results that advance the Kingdom. I’m sure you know that we can choose to get results and meet our needs outside the leading of the Spirit. But there is a difference between the results you achieve by your efforts as compared to that produced by the Spirt. When the result or desire fulfilled is by the Spirit, that outcome would always advance God’s kingdom, It would meet God’s needs and birth His will on earth. Isaac carried God’s covenant, raising for Him a nation because Isaac was not a product of human effort. You can birth Isaac or Ishmael; the choice is yours.
For everyone at a cross road, looking for clarification on a decision, I hope this give you light. It is my prayer that you would continually hear and yield to the leading of the Spirit.
