The Lord Is My Shepherd I Shall Not Want

I shall not want. –This deals with the transformation of our minds. I shall not want is a mindset of abundance; it is rooted in the awareness of who our shepherd is, His resources, His integrity, and His commitment to us. I shall not want- has nothing to do with supplies on the outside. It is a mindset, a thinking pattern on the inside that produces the results on the outside.

The scripture says; let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Jesus operated from a mindset of abundance, He was never In lack. In God’s kingdom, there is no lack. That’s why the bible says He has given to us all that pertains to life and godliness.

In Matt 17:24-27 Jesus was asked to pay taxes. Although He did not have money in His pocket to make the payment, He knew where God’s provision for that need was. Jesus asked Peter to go catch the first fish and take out the money in the fish’s belly. That is what it means to lack nothing. Lacking nothing does mean that I would physically always have all that I need. It means that whenever a need arises in my life, I need not fret but go to my Father who will show me the provision He has already made available. It’s a mindset that is aware of God’s resources and provision already made available for us.

We see another example of God’s provision in the old testatment. When the children of Israel went through the wilderness and came to the place where they had bitter waters, they complained to Moses. Moses cried out to God, and God showed him the solution. There was a need for sweet waters, and God did not have to begin to create a solution. The tree that made the water sweet was already created and right there. The only issue was that the Israelites did not recognize it. They did not know. When Moses approached God, his eyes were opened to see the provision.

As believers, we need to live each day knowing that God has provided and made available to us all that we would ever need. So, whenever a need arises we can ask God in His mercy to open our eyes to His provision. ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing’ is a consciousness that we need to walk in.
