Perception – One Key to Unlocking Abundance

For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. Matthew 25:29 NIV

While growing up I enjoyed watching lots of foreign movies especially Christmas movies (Hallmark movies precisely lol). I loved the snow, it was so beautiful and magical. It made me desire a white Christmas. Fast forward a couple of years after, I’m now based in Canada and the desire for a white Christmas has been satisfied over and over. This year’s Christmas was different though, the winter was not friendly at all, the snow dump was massive and for the first time in years, I was finally done with having a white Christmas.

As I thought back to the fact that this was once a desire, it occurred to me that all of the movies I saw with the beautiful snowfall never showed anyone shoveling the snow. It did not show the difficulty of driving or slippery roads that comes with the snow, instead, the movies focused on the beauty of the snowfall and winter. They showed us the nice fireplaces, with no mention of super freezing temperatures, they showed the stylish winter jackets and boots with no mention of the discomfort of having to layer up just to keep warm.

Then the Holy Spirit taught me something profound from this … He said the first step to experiencing abundance in any area of life is having a mindset of abundance. What is a mindset of abundance? it is a mindset that recognizes that God has given me all I need to live in abundance. It recognizes that what I need to live in abundance is not something outside of me, it is something I already have. A mindset of lack on the other hand is one that constantly says, I don’t have the resources, I don’t have what it takes.

Our text for today says – Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. So, the Bible recognizes that those that say they don’t have do have something because it goes further to say what they have will be taken. The person that says he/she does not have, their lack is based on their perception, not truth. They lose what they have because they do see it, value it, or count it as anything. They say they have nothing and it becomes their reality.

I’m sure you’re wondering what has my story got to this with this. Let’s tie this up. Western countries have winter for a couple of months in a year, winters are not the greatest of seasons however they choose to focus on the beauty and benefits of this season. They portray that so well in their movies it makes people spend thousands of dollars, leave their nice summer weather to come to experience a cold winter, presented as white Christmas. In the winter of 2015, international travelers spent 1.7Billion dollars in Canada. This is just winter.

Canada

Winter + Right mindset = 1.7 Billion in 4 months via tourism

Dubai

Desert + Right mindset = 41 Billion/ year in tourism

My point is, abundance has more to do with how you perceive, value, and use what you have. When God shows up to multiply, He always uses what’s in your hand, what you already have. All Jesus needed was the five loaves and two fishes. In 2 Kings chapter 4, a widow experienced multiplication, all she had was a jar of oil and that’s all she needed.

God commanded each one of us to be fruitful and multiply because in everyone is a seed that can bear fruits and multiply. You have all you need to enjoy abundance.

Once you accept the truth that you have all you need, all of a sudden, you begin to see the opportunities in what you have. As you utilize those opportunities, you open up the door for increase. But if you always think you don’t have enough, you will never have. If you keep thinking my income is not enough, it will never be. Even if it doubles, in a matter of time, it still won’t be enough. It’s never about the income, it’s the mindset.

It is easy to be so focused on what you do not have that you never recognize, value, and use what you have. It is so easy to compare what you have with others that you devalue and never use what you have because you perceive it’s not good enough. Your abundance is not in a business, a higher paying job, an investment, etc. it’s in your mindset. What do you have? Is it enough?

I want you to walk in the consciousness that you have what it takes to enjoy abundance and what you have is Enough.

Love always

Obebi
