11 The Lord said, “Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now. 12 I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming in and laying hands on him so he can see again.” Acts 9:11-12
A couple of years ago, I was searching for an apartment. I had a list of what I wanted in the apartment and I prayed to God about it, asking Him to lead me to the best place. After praying I began my search, weeks turned into months and it was beginning to get to me. This should not be this difficult I thought to myself. After trying so hard and still not finding any I went back to God and asked why I haven’t been able to get a good place even though I was praying for one. I had an impression in my heart, I sensed God say to me “when you stop trying in your effort to get one, then I can step in”.
In my mind, I thought I was taking the corresponding action in line with my faith, it never occurred to me that I was trying to get the answer through my effort. After I got that impression in my heart, I repented and told God I would not do anything about it again except if He instructed me. I stopped searching for a place and just thanked God for providing me with one. A few days after I got a call asking if I still needed a place because there was an apartment available. The apartment was all I prayed for and more. I couldn’t help but wonder, how did this person get my contact? Of all the people searching for a place, why was I called? Why is it that the answer came when I did nothing? The Holy Spirit gave me insight into today’s text which helped me understand better.
- God knows exactly where you are
The Lord said, “Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now
Jesus was speaking to Ananias in this text, and He gives him Saul’s exact address. As I pondered on this scripture, I realized that God knows exactly where you are. Just like he knew Saul’s exact location, God knows exactly where you are physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and in all other aspects. Not only does He know where you are, He knows exactly how to get you the help you need. There are times when God takes you to the help you need, there are other times He brings that help to you. in this season, I believe strongly that God is bringing into many lives the resources, the help, the answers that you desire. You don’t need to worry about how He’ll do it, He knows exactly where you are and how to get to you. Just the way he brought me an apartment, the same way He brought Ananias to Saul, He is bringing you the resources you need in this season.
- God will perform His word
I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming in and laying hands on him so he can see again.”
Saul encounters Jesus and is blind. While Saul was praying, Jesus comes and shows him in a vision that a man named Ananias will come to pray for him so he can regain his sight. Then Jesus goes to Ananias and instructs him to go pray for Saul. Ananias had his reservations but Jesus brought him to the place of conviction and he then stepped out to obey the instruction.
Jesus gave Saul the vision: Jesus fulfilled the vision.
Jesus gave Saul the vision. Jesus convinces Ananias to get up and fulfill that word. (Acts 9:13-15)
It is true that when God gives us His word we must know our participatory role for the word to be fulfilled. The challenge most times is knowing that role. Sometimes God can say “Stand still and see my salvation”, and other times He can give an instruction that requires you to act. Over time I’ve noticed that for someone like me who’s action-driven and always doing, I find it difficult to stand still, believe in God, and wait for Him to fulfill His word. My mind interprets my lack of outward action as being irresponsible and not walking by faith. If you’re in my category you’ll find that most times in the bid to walk by faith we end up striving so hard, subconsciously trying to bring about the fulfillment of God’s word by our efforts.
If you fall into this category, this word is for you. Strongly impressed on my heart in this season is the word stand still and watch God fulfill His word to you. I sense God saying stop trying in your effort, cease from your works, stand still and watch me fulfill my promise to you. Sometimes our self-effort disguised as our actions of faith gets in the way. Being still and letting God is an act of faith.
Someone reading this blog post today has received a word or a vision from God about a future He’s bringing you into. You have been doing everything in your power to make that word come to pass. But I came to remind you that He who sent His word will fulfill it. Your response this time is to stand still and see the salvation of God. You cannot convince Ananias, only Jesus can. You cannot make that word come to pass. You have to stop trying and let God bring His word to pass.
And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. Luke 1:45
If He gave you a word, He will fulfill it. If He gave you a vision, He will bring it to pass.
Believe it!
Love always
