Obedience: A system of Defence

“You must love the Lord your God and always obey his requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands. Deuteronomy 11:1

Over the years, I’ve heard stories being told of people trusting God for a specific breakthrough but when the angel of God came with the answers they were not at their duty post or so. For example, a lady did not get her breakthrough because she wasn’t at choir rehearsals. Stories like this have bordered me for a while. I just couldn’t wrap my head around why the angel just could not deliver the breakthrough to their houses. I kept saying God cannot be that wicked. If men can go out of their way to bless men, how much more God?

A recent conversation with my Pastor, not only triggered these questions again but brought clarity. I had a season where I kept having nightmares making it challenging to have a good rest at night. When prayer and fasting didn’t stop the nightmares, I went to chat with him about it. And he asked, “Did God give you any instruction? and are you walking in obedience to it? At first, I couldn’t think of any. But later I remembered. I went back to obeying the instruction and that was the end of the nightmares.

As I pondered on this experience, I realized there are certain instructions God gives to individuals. For example, someone can be instructed to sing in the choir while another person is simply inspired to serve in the choir. The person who was inspired to join the choir can leave the choir when they choose and it would not be considered a sin. To the person who was instructed to sing in the choir, leaving the choir would be disobeying God’s instruction. God’s instructions can vary, It can be: write a book, record a podcast, post scripture on social media, etc.

Most times because these instructions are personal and different from God’s commands in the bible, it easy to stop obeying them and not even realize that we are in disobedience. Because these instructions are personal, those around us may not even know we are in disobedience, and would not be able to help realign us.

1 Peter 5:8 says the devil goes around seeking whom to devour. He keeps looking for access points to come in and destroy. Disobedience of any kind gives the devil legal access to one’s life. Once you give the devil access to your life, he’ll come in and devour. Let’s link this to the stories I heard that bordered me.

Here’s what the Holy Spirit taught me. He said when you hear stories where it was said that an angel came with a breakthrough to a particular place but could not find the person, most times it means, the person’s answer has been released by heaven, however, the devil has a legal ground in that life and has hindered the blessing from getting to them. The place where the angle shows up is usually to help the person identify what area in their life has given access to the devil to hinder their answer. For example, if the person instructed to join the choir leaves the choir. Disobedience to that instruction gives the devil a legal ground to hinder that person’s breakthrough. The angel showing up a choir practice is only to help the person identify the point of access. Once the person gets back in obedience and goes back to the choir in this case, the devil loses his legal access to that life, hindrance is taken off and the breakthrough is released.

Finally, it made sense, our Father remains a loving God and the angels know our home address. But for the angel to show up anywhere we are with our break though, we must open and grant them access via our obedience to God’s instruction. Obedience to God’s instructions gives Him legal grounds to defend us. Obedience is our system of defense against the enemy.

I pray God grants us grace to walk in complete obedience to all His commands and instructions.

Love Always

Obebi

  • Amen. Amen. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Sir. You’re right, indeed sometimes we are insensitive to God’s commands, we compare our selves or just dwell on generic commands. I am so glad you were blessed.

  • Dear Lord, help us by your Spirit to fully be obedient unto Your commands…

Obedience is a prove of our love for God.. Deut 11:1 confirms that again as much as John 14:15. Many have suffer loss due to disobedience and many because they aren’t even sensitive enough to recognize God’s direct commands to them… they keep comparing themselves with others just as Peter did in John 21:21-23 and they are only dwelling on the generic commands they have found in the scripture, whereas, God is giving them a direct command, a word for NOW that they must obey to connect to the written promises of God… May the Lord open our eyes to see and our ears to hear so we can truly and fully obey His instructions.

God bless you sister Obebi for sharing this powerful insight. I am richly blessed
