A Posture for Victory

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

I was playing a game with a friend of mine, and we got to a card that required me to answer the question “What’s God’s word for you and your friend in this season.” I paused for a while and asked the Holy Spirit and then I told her what came to mind for her. Then she asked me, what’s God’s word for you? and I said Stand. To me, it was a game and I didn’t pay so much attention to it. But not long after, I started hearing that word stand everywhere.

It then occurred to me that God was speaking and it wasn’t just a game. He wanted me to stand. At first, I wasn’t sure why or what I should take a stand on, but later I came to understand that God had given me a word that was yet to be made manifest this year. A part of me was beginning to doubt and get discouraged and He had sent His word saying – Stand on the truth, don’t give up.

I decided to do a study on standing to help me obey this word fully and the first thing I realized was that every time the bible speaks about going up against our enemy, it tells us to assume a certain posture; it says STAND. Don’t run, don’t sit, don’t walk, just Stand. What does it mean to stand? To stand means: to not be changed, to remain firm, to resist successfully, and to remain in a place or position without moving or being moved. Regarding that promise, that expectation, God says Stand your ground, do not give up.

To stand effectively and establish the victory God has given to us, we must be properly dressed. The very first piece of armour we must put on is Truth; the belt of truth.

We live in a world where everyone seems to have their truth. However, as believers, we do not have the liberty to have our versions of truth because we have the Truth. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life John 14:6. Jesus is the word, and therefore the word of God is the truth.

How exactly does truth serve as an armour? , How does truth help us stand against the devil? I’m glad you asked. I believe there are 3 levels at which we engage the truth.

Awareness of truth: Head knowledge

Understanding of truth: Comprehension, Revelation, light

Application of truth: A decision to stand, live by and act consistent with the truth

We all begin with an awareness of truth. We know scriptures, and we memories them sometimes but we don’t understand what they mean. Nothing wrong with it, it’s the first step in engaging truth but we should not stop there because the truth you are aware of is not armour. It cannot protect you. We must all press in for understanding. Understanding is the second level at which we engage truth, but understanding not applied isn’t armour. A decision to apply, stand on, and live conscious of the truth understood is what becomes armour.

A simple illustration:

Awareness of truth: By His stripes, I am healed.

Understanding of truth: I understand the legal transaction that took place on the cross, making sickness an illegal entity in my body. Even though I understand I have victory, I can be sick and not enforce the victory. It means I have armour but have not put it on.

Application of truth: I make a conscious decision to live in the consciousness that I am whole and no sickness is permitted in my body, and if for any reason, I see any form of it, I stand and enforce the victory I have in Christ, knowing that sickness has no legal right to my body. Because I have decided to stand on this truth, there’s no confusion as to how I respond.

Take a look at how Abraham responded to the truth of God’s promise to Him:

He did not waver (to sway to and fro, to begin to doubt, a be undecided between two opinions) at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. Romans 4:20-21

Abraham stood on God’s promise. He didn’t change his mind, he refused to be moved. This is the posture God wants us to assume in this season.

I believe there maybe be someone out there waiting to see the manifestation of God’s word to you this year, I believe this word is for you. Whatever God said to you this year is still true. His word is truth. Do not give in to discouragement, do not let the enemy tell you the year is about to come to an end and it’s not happening. Today I want you to decide to stand on that truth, refuse to waiver, and refuse to adjust your expectation. God is faithful to His word. STAND on that truth. Put on the belt of truth
