Fight as a King | Truth as an Armour

And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand. 2 Samuel 5:19

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Ephesians 6:14

It is interesting to see parallels between that battles in the old testament and spiritual warfare in the new. In bible days before Kings would go out to war, most had a practice of going to the prophet of God to enquire of the Lord. A kings first response was not to get his army ready but to go to God to get the first most important armour needed for warfare – Truth. Kings went to God to seek for His truth, what is God’s word concerning this battle. Should we go to war or not? Kings knew the power of the armour of truth and always went after that armour whenever they faced a war. When they went to seek the Lord, He would give a response. For all the times the Kings sought the Lord, they went to battle knowing exactly what the outcome would be.

Lesson 1: God gives us the outcome of a battle before it begins.

In our text today, David went to fight the Philistines, but even before David showed up for the battle he knew he had the victory. We see that it is in God’s character to give us the outcome of every battle before it begins. That outcome He gives to us via His word is an armour called truth. We always fight from victory never for victory.

All David had before going to war was the word of God saying “Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand”. On this truth, David stepped out to war. The same is true of spiritual warfare today. You should never step out to war without the truth of God’s word. What has God said concerning that situation? What has God said concerning your health? Truth is your first armour, it is what gives you the audacity to stand in prayer.

As believers, we know that Jesus’s death on the cross has given us victory. That’s good to know, however when you come to the place of warfare you must dig deeper to find out, in your specific situation what is the victory that has been given you. What is the truth of God’s word regarding your challenge? That truth becomes the basis on which you stand against the enemy in that situation.

Lesson 2: Knowledge of the truth (the victory God has given) does not equal victory in experience

God told David he was going to have victory over the Philistines but guess what, David still had to go to war. David went to fight, he did not just sit and say, okay God has given me victory, He will bring it to pass. To possess our victory in this earthly realm we must engage. Engage means taking steps, taking action. We must decide to walk with the Holy Spirit as He leads us to take the right actions until our victory is established on earth as it is in heaven.

Lesson 3: Kings rule by decree

A king understands his authority and executes accordingly. In the place of prayer, understanding the truth about our authority to execute on earth, on God’s behalf is a game changer. If the victory God has given us will find expression on earth, we have to permit and enforce that victory in the place of prayer.

This understanding gives us boldness in the place of prayer. When we pray, we can then make decrees, we can command anything standing against God’s truth to leave. We stand boldly knowing we are executing the will of our Father, standing in the authority and dominion given to us. So, when you pray commanding sickness to leave your body, you do not do that just because the sickness makes you uncomfortable, or because you feel like it. No, you issue that degree knowing

– God has given you healing and sickness is an illegal occupant in your body

– God had given you the authority to enforce His will on earth and you’re executing His will with the authority He has given.

Truth is your first armour of defence against the enemy. There’s no warfare without truth.

As the year comes to an end, stand in the truth your Father has spoken to you. Remember it is your responsibility to execute that victory in the earthly realm. Stand your ground in prayer; decree, command, uproot consistent with His truth, and refuse to stop until it is on earth as it is in heaven.

Love always

Obebi
